In the current educational climate in Finland, there is a call for more space for student participation in school, more opportunities for homes to impact education, and more effort in multi-professional groups in school. The new national core curriculum in Finland emphasizes these.
Maija gave an invited lecture in the Nuori 2017 event in Tampere, outlining why answering to these calls is sometimes difficult for practitioners of education. The session was packed, and it seems many youth workers in school are trying to find a position in which they could not only respond to the needs of the schools and teachers, but to the needs of youth and youth work.
It appears that teachers have a reputation as a professional group that is hard to work with… earned or unjust?
